Found around coastline. More common further south
Legal size
35cm.

Habitat

Amongst kelp and weed, spawn in aerated water

Spear fishing

The best attack is to duck dive down into the weed and wait.
As you wait they will start to rise above the weed line.
Also try coming from a deeper depth up the weed line.
Often will sit on eddy lines
Don’t swim after butterfish. Just hide in the kelp

If you see one there will normally be others in the same area
